Best Web Junk (February 27)

This is an amazing picture. I've seen a heron swallowing a bluegill whole, a hawk eating a snake, and an osprey flying over with a fish in it's talons, but I never even dreamed of catching it on film. This completely cracked me up (seriously, this one is hilarious)

I knew it - Mosquitos are indestructible

A neat photo gallery

Conan O'Brien - My favorite clip

Late Night with Conan O'Brien began during my senior year of High School.  I watched it with regularity throughout college and less frequently in the last few years.  Since the show is no more and Conan is moving on to a more famous time slot, I thought I would share my all-time favorite bit from the show.  Enjoy Mr. T picking apples. If you only watch one Japaneese commercial for a gun powered alarm clock.  This should be that commercial Wonder why I've never seen this before.  Seems like an obvious project for a star Wars fan

24 weird pillows - really nothing else to say about that.  Some of them are very cool

Wow - Best Buy sarcasm is mean and funny

What happens when a geek has way too much time on his hands?  He calculates the real-world cost of the Death Star.

Best Web Junk (January 30)

It is no secret that I love Portal. I believe it is simply one of the most brilliantly designed and executed games I've ever played.  So of course I geeked out over this set of Portal guns somebody made I also love a good rant periodically.  This rant about a flight on Virgin airlines is both hilarious and well-written.  Here's a choice quote:

No sane person would serve a desert with a tomato would they. Well answer me this Richard, what sort of animal would serve a desert with peas in

This is a silly pic

Easily the greatest hacker prank of all time

The Super Bowl is Sunday and these are some pretty interesting numbers about its production

I almost passed out laughing at this. It's truly hilarious.  Be warned - it does have a swear.

Confusing Commercials

I have been seeing the "What is G?" commercials for a couple of weeks.  I knew they have a ton of athletes in them and that they don't name the product they are advertising.  My guess was that they were commercials for Gatorade because of the sheer volume of athletes I couldn't think of another product they might be for. Clearly I was not the only one wondering what they are for because when I googled "what is G" I got this article.

I suppose that this method worked for gatorade, it made me curious enough to look it up, but why would a product want commercials that don't name the product and don't even give you a hint about what it may be about?  I'm pretty much baffled by this and hope it doesn't become a trend.

Here is one of the commercials:

IMB Commissioning Service

Missionaries with flags Monday night at the 2008 BSCNC featured a commissioning service for 31 IMB missionaries.  It began with march in the flags of many countries lined the aisle ways as the missionaries worked their way on stage.  Then it concluded with a message from Dr. Tom Elliff.

By far, the best part of the commissioning service was the the time of testimony from the missionaries themselves.  There were 31 appointees.  They ranged in age from their 20s to their 60s and they all had different stories.  They were literally headed to every part of the globe.  Some were called as children in GA meetings, some in college, and some as they were retiring.  Single, newlyweds, widows and grandparents.  It was very inspiring.

My prayer every day is that I will go wherever God wants me to go, Alaska to Africa, as long as I know it is god who has called.  I have a very clear sense of calling, but that commissioning service allowed me to see something I already knew, there is nothing super-Christian about missionaries.  they have simply been called, and said yes.  I have a couple of friends that are missionaries and I admire them for their willingness.

This video of missionaries from West Africa demonstrates this point very well.  Enjoy it, and be willing to be God's vessel wherever he calls you.  He may want to send you to Indonesia, but he also may want to send you to the choir, the nursery, or the nursing home.

In blogging news.  There will be a post here tomorrow.  A book review that I started about 2 months ago, but never finished.  Then there will be a Thanksgiving acro game and best web junk on Friday.  I will not be around much to moderate the comments.  But feel free to add to the collaborative story.  We've kinda left William in the lurch.
